"DEMONSTRATE!"
OBSTRUCT UNEMPLOYMENT ACT
A correspondent has forwarded to "The Post" a copy of a circular which is being freely distributed by "the Communist Party of New Zealand." It is headed "A Swindle; the Unemployment Insurance Act; Refuse to be Taxed; Demand that the Rich ho Taxed," and is a call to workers to obstruct the operation of tho Unemployment Act. After stating that the workers will "have to take any jobs offered, anywhere, at any rate of pay," or they will get no benefits, the circular proceeds: — "The most of the money will be paid in administration expenses and 'in tho collection of the tax. The balance will be used by the board, 'in finding work.' This means in subsidising employers so
that they can employ some workers profitably. Tho workers will pay the most and get back the least. "VICTIMISATION." "The Act increases the power of the bosses over the workers. It definitely instructs an employer- to sack, and to refuse to employ workers who do not pay the tax. This means the victimisation of militants. "This Act was fathered by the Alliance of Labour Representatives (M'Brine and Roberts) on tho Unemployment Commission. The Labour Party has made tho usual sham fight 'o» the floor of tho House.' Neither of these bodies put forward any alternative which did not include contributions from the workers. Tho Act is a swindle and a fake, which clearly is not a solution for unemployment, but merely a scheme on the part of the United Government backed up by the Labour Party to make it appear that something has been done for the unemployed. Unemployment insurance should be taken from the profits of the bosses. Not from the scanty wages of tho workers. Neither the Alliance of Labour, or tho Labour Party, have taken up a fight in this direction. Only the militant Unemployed and the Communist Party have put forward the correct policy. / "Refuse to Register! Refuse 'to Pay! Organise the Unemployed! Form Committees on All Jobs' to Fight the Bill! If the Boss Sacks Anyone for Refusal to Pay or Register, Hold the Job Up! Demonstrate! Protest!"
