DORNIER DO. X AT CALSHOT
TECHNICAL CRITICISM
LONDON, 11th November. The flight of the great German flying boat Dornier Do. X from Amsterdam to Calshot was uneventful, and occupied less than five hours. The boat was welcomed by a swarm of aeroplanes as it. approached the Isle of Wight, and was escorted to the base, where German officials met the Dornier. The passengers included three women, Lady Drummond Hay, Mrs. Dornier, and the wife of the head of the German Aircraft Company. Captain Christiansen, the commander, won distinction in war-time as an aviator and naval, officer. Tho Do. X excited the greatest in- j terest. Major Turner, of the "Daily Telegraph," describes the landing at Calshot as even smoother and more graceful than that of small; craft. Critics, however, distrust the small reserve power, and consider the load per unit of wing area and per unit of power greater than is regarded as wise according to British standards.
