MORE WIND AGAIN
WESTERLY WEATHER
Winds yesterday "were fresh to strong south-westerlies in most parts of the Dominion, but during the day they decreased gradually in strength, and during the night veered to westerlies. This morning saw winds again freshening, with a tendency for north-westerlies to prevail. Pressure distribution is still of a type common of late, with barometers high in the north and a series of low pressure waves moving across southern latitudes. The present readings in the north, however, are somewhat lower than they have been for some time, which is a possible indication that a change in typo of pressure distribution is gradually developing. Kain is again setting in over western districts, especially in the South Island, and showers have been experienced also in southern Ot.ago and in Southland. In eastern districts the weather has continued fine. Temperatures have been cool over the southern half of the South Island, where frosts have been recorded, but elsewhere they have been mild. Auckland had a showery morning yesterday with a strong south-west wind, but conditions improved later. No fault whatever could be found with the beautiful day that "Wellington _ experienced, only light breezes blowing and the sun shining warmly. This morning, however, the wind is again freshening from the north-west. Christchurch experienced overcast skies yesterday, with a cool north-westerly wind in the afternoon. It was otherwise fine and cleared later, five degrees of frost being recorded at night. Cloudy weather continued at Dunedin, and some rain fell there last night. The wind veered from south-west to north or north-east. Moderate to strong westerly to northerly winds are now likely to be general, and to reach' gale forco at times in and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Fine weather is likely to continue in eastern districts, but with increasing haze and clouds. In western districts rather unsettled conditions may be expected, with rain gradually extending from there to other parts. Temperatures will be mild.
