SURPRISE JOURNEY EASILY
Surprise Journey won the Spring Handicap like a good trotter. He went away in fine style, and was quickly in the lead, trotting the whole journey without a mistake.. He has not been long in the Dominion'/ but.he won a race at Auckland after'his-Arrival, from Australia. He is a powerfully built trotter, but has the reputation.of being best over short courses. Duke Birigen paid quite a big dividend when.'he, finished second to Surprise Journey.- He gradually made up his ground, and-was third a quarter of a mile from home. Rounding the home turn into the straight he seemed to lose ground, but he came on fast at the end. Duke Bingeu is a very. fast .trotter, particularly partial to .'mile', and' a half races. The form ,of White Satin, vrho was a 1 warm favourite for' the race, was far '.below what ::she. ..showed at Wellington. In her latest effort she broke at the end of- a furlong, and, after settling down, broke again at the .same place in the next ronnd. At Wellington she went two races without a mistake.
