ANNUAL MEETING
The annu.il geneial business meeting uf the Cerclc Francais tvas held last week. The following officeis and committee were elected:—Pation, Mr. Paul Serre (Consul for Fiance, resident in Auckland); piesident, Mr. F. F. Miles (ie elected); vice-presidents, Madame Bendall, Prof. E. J. JBoyd Wilson and M. F. Bouillet (all re elected); secietaiy, Miss Kathenne Birme; assistant-secretary, Miss Fiances Huntington; fieafcuiei, Miss C. Mead; librdiiau, ill. M. H. Green (ic-clccted); auditoi, Mr. Speucer B. Clark (re-elect-ed); jtenei.il committee, Mesdames Dcchanet Al'lntosh, do I'ilippi, T. R. Herd, W. R. Iluisthouio, Misses \ and C, Smvth&on, Jfessis. W. T. C. Balham; and Wynne M.i'.on. The repot t and balance-sheet weie adopted. The club was shown to have been progiessive, as a loom had been hecured as a hbiaiy and a great con\-enience. A lianduomc gift of books from the French Government vas also'acknowledged. Thete had been obtained by the kind interest of M.-Paul Seue (the club's president d'honneur) upon tho representation of M. F. Bouillet (vice-president). ' Reference was made to the departures through the year of Madame Bendall', who had gone on a visit to France; Mr. A. C. Keys,.who bad departed for the 'same country, having won a French travelling scholaiship; Mr. R. A. Lochore, whoihad also left for the Continent to continue his studies; and Miss M. P. Young, who had gone to reside -in Italy." - The latter portion of the evening was filled by a .request performance of "Les Precieuscs Ridicules," presepted by Mrs. M. H. Green. The parts were taken by Mesdames Herd, de Filippi, and Green, Misses Tewsley, Una Castle, Mary Cooley, C. Smythson, M.-Hursthouse, and Reid. Period music was supplied by Misses Muriel Turner (piano) and Ruth Reid (violin). Miss, Turner alto played "Study in A Flat" (Chopin), and "Claude Lune" (Debussy). A resume of '"Les PrecicuseVwas read by Mr. Bouillet, who also read a digest of the annual report of the Auckland Club, sent by Mr. Serre. The evening concluded with supper. Several visitors were present, and Mrs. Hursthouw;, Miss Hind, and Mifcb Smythson received. j
