PROMISE OF GOOD DAIRY YIELD

Justifying the optimistic outlook so far as dairy production is concerned, states the "New Zealand Herald," are reports from all parts of the Auckland district'indicating that the pastures and herds are in good heart, the bountiful rain of the spring having induced a prolific growth of grass. On a cash basis the season is not so good as the last one, but. even at one shilling a pound butter-fat, this season's increase in output is sufficient to offset the lower values by over £200,000. Although Auckland exporters have been watching the Canadian position very closely, they can give little indication as yet whether any New Zealand butter will be wanted in the Eastern States this season. While there is no likelihood of Canada taking., the heavy consignments of last year, some exporters believe that there' is a .chance'that some will be wanted just after < Christmas. ■ ■ 'Practically" the whole of New Zealand's export surplus of dairy produce is going to London this season. Eastern markets are'"being watched very closely, but the quantity of .dairy produce shipped to those parts is-'not 'very large. Similarly, Auckland'1 shippers have their eyes on the Paim;ma zone, a_nd. a few regular contracts for spread 'delivery are- held for there, but although that market is' capable of development, it has not shown any noteworthy expansion this season.
