A warrant being out for Vietof David's arrest on account.of his failurai to. pay a fine, Constable' Grant spokai to him as he -was driving through; Cqurtenay place yesterday. The \subsequen« happenings, '.which-, attracted .&■, Jargji .crowd, .were also responsible- for thdj appearance of 'David, a- hawker, :age j 28, 'before,Mi'., E. 'Page,- S.M., in Vth.S Magistrate's Court: this-morning charged with assaulting- Constable -.Grant while in the execution, of his duty. Mr. A. B. Sievwright. appeared, fof the accused,, who .pleaded not .guilty. . Sub-InspectorLopdeli said'that whe^J the constable asked David to. go to the police station, the' latter, refused, say;* ing-he would pay the.fine in the.morn* ing. The constable stepped on: to t¥o' running board" of the car,'which ■ was being driven by another -111311,: and. thej accused tried to push him off.
