BRITISH TRADE
"TIDE DEFINITELY TURNED"
Mr. W. D. Lambie, who for the past six years has been assistant to. the British Trade Commissioner at A Tew Zealand headquarters: in -Wellington, was farewolled to-day by members of the British (U.K.) Manufacturers' Association of New Zealand, and by a number of other business friends. Amongst those present was Mr. L. A. Paish, British Tradd Commissioner. Mr. L. Ashcroft Edwards, president of the British (U.K.) Manufacturers' Association of New Zealand, said that while they regretted Mr. Lambie's departure for Canada, they felt pleasure at his promotion to the position of first officer in his branch of the service at Winnipeg. Mr. Lambie's, unfailing courtesy was recognised by the business community. Taking a proper view of things, said Mr. Edwards, one must come to the conclusion that1 the United Kingdom was the strongest country in existence to-day. Investigation., showed that England' was steadily forging ahead. The speaker referred to the wool situation arid to the motor-car industry, and predicted that within a couple of years there would be a wonderful advance in New Zealand in tho British motor-car, industry. Speaking generally, there was every reason for confidence in the economic future 'of the British Empire. England . was probably, the solidest country in the world to-day. Mr. W. D. Lambie returned thanks for the kindly remarks which had boon made about him. His stay in New Zealand had been most pleasant. Alluding to the trade' outlook, he said he was. confident that the tide had definitely turned. : He was afraid that many British people were too modest in their outlook. "We know," he said, "that Britain leads the world in tho quality of her goods; let us take a leaf out of America's book, and. tell the world that we do lead in the quality of our goods." ... Mr. Lambio left for the north this afternoon, and will be a passenger by the Niagara for Vancouver on Tuesday next.
