THEFT CHARGES
CLERK'S ADMISSION
LOCAL BODY DEFRAUDED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, 10th November. Four charges of theft from the Auckland City Council, involving sums totalling £319 18s 6d, were admitted by William Hobson Nelson, aged 51, a clerk (Mr. Vialoux), in the Police Court to-day. Mr. Hugh Wylie, Government Auditor, said it was tho accused's duty to issue licences and to pay all money received into the city treasurer's office daily. On going through tho accounts witness noticed irregularities with various cheques. These cheques had been handed into the treasurer before the licences had been issued, and had been used to make up cash which otherwise would have becu short. The irregularities were rectified later, sometimes on the following day, and sometimes several days afterwards. Detective Mills, who arrested tho accused, said that on being informed of the nature of the charge, the, accused said: "I know all about it; I am going to plead guilty to the lot." j Accused pleaded guilty to all counts, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was rei fused. ■
