POSITION IN AUSTRALIA

MORE THAN HALF COST REPAID

CANBERRA, 10th Novcrabe. The annual report of the War Services Home Commission states that tho expenditure for the year ended 30th June, after provision had been made for 1500 homes, was £1,154,000. Repayments totalled £1,650,000. The aggregate number of homes provided since tho inception of the scheme is 36,539, costing £28,549,000, of which sum £15,444,000 has been repaid. After the disposal of certain reverted homes aud unrequired lands the total amount of instalments outstanding is £10,524,000. The arrears are £117,000, a small increase due principally to stoppages on the Newcastle coalfields. _^^^^
