Although the Council of the Xew Zealand Amateur Athletic Association at its j last meeting decided to go no further this year with the "Wellington Centre's rccom-1 mendation to invite a champion cyclist I from overseas to visit the Dominion this ! season, thei-e may yet be a possibility of an Australian rider being brought over if plans the Wellington Centre, have .m view are satisfactorily finalised. At us meeting^, last' evening the centre; decided to ask the N.55.A.A.A. Council for permission to invite an Australian rider and to open up negotiations with the Australian authorities. EXPLANATION ACCEPTED. Some consideration was given to the position of J. Carswell in view of reports that he had-been actively connected with cyclists affiliated to the N.Z.Tj.C. A letter was read- from' the Cycling Sub-Com-mittee, stating that a resolution had been parsed protesting against Carswell being 'allowed to-compete in .races under the of the N.Z.A.A.A. The meeting also had a letter before it from Carswell, in which he answered,.-certain questions that had been put to him by the Centre. He said.that he was m no way connected with the 'Port Nicholson. Club (N Z.U.C.)/ The' extent of. his activities was that on one.occasion,wlien>he ; -was.a. spectator at the finish'of one of the club s races he picked the third rider-to.finish in response to a request. When it was moved that Cavswell s explanation should be accepted, Mr. Goodail was the only dissentient. TWO APPLICATIONS. , The application of AY" E. Crichton to ride again under.the auspices of the WelliDgton Centre was referred back to the Cycling Sub-Committee for a recommenda- ' "The case of M. Violich, a Scottish Club harrier, who ;took part in the road race Irom Palmerston North to Wellington held by the Port Nicholson Club (S..Z.UC.) was also considered. In a letter Violich said he had been1!, informed by one of the officials of the'dub that by riding in the race his position would not be affected so far as competing as a runner- was' concerned. It was decided to forward his application to have the sus-pension~placed~on-him-lifted-to the cycling Sub-Committee. THREE DAYS' TEAMS' RACE. The N.ZA.A.A.
