Raco meetings all the world over— from Ascot and Goodwood and Long*ohamps to-the smallest country meeting in the Antipodes—are recognised as the most pleasant and suitable occasions for tho display of feminine fash-/ ions, which, inappropriate sotting, are a never-failing source of interest and pleasure to all women and most men, states' the Christchurch "Press." In New Zealand,, Cup Day at Biecarton, has long been considered an exceptionally well-dressed gathering, at which summer frocks and hats make a triumphant entry before an admiring public. Unfortunately rain fell, on Saturday morning, and wise women postponed the wearing of their more elaborate gowns until later in the Meeting. But this disappointment was the only shadow on an otherwise perfect day. Her Excellency,^ Lady Bledisloe, who presented the Gold Cup to Mr. A. Louisson ,the proud owner of Nightmarch, wore a vivid lime-green ensemble, the satin frock having a collar of vellum-tinted lace, while the tailored cloth coat had an upstanding collar and deep cuffs of beigb fur. Her felt hat, with brim upturned in front, was caught with a buckle of brilliants, and her umbrella was1 of a deeper shade of green. Mrs. H. A. Knight, wife of th chairman, wore a ,Huo and grey flecked tweed costume and navy blue Bangkok straw hat. Mrß. George Aitken wore a smart frock of beige and brown finely-flecked tweed under a plaid coat in the same toning, and

her wide-brimmed browa hat was narrowly banded with spotted ribbon. Among the North Island visitors were: Lady Myers (Wellington), who woro a black georgette frock banded with black velvet, black cloth coat, with mole fur collar nnd cuffs, small black felt hat; Mrs. T. H. Lowry (llawkcs Bay), grey twocd tailored coat over a navy frock, navy baku hat with flat butT-colOured feather trimmhijc- Mrs. Edward Itiddiford (Lower Itutt), black ensemble, wide black hat; Airs. Dudley Kettlo (Napier), brown tailored suit, brown felt hat; Mrs. P. V. Prazer (Wellington), black suit, small black velour hat; Mrs, Hector Roilestou (England), tailored costume of groy suiting, black hat; Miss J. Upton (England), finely checked brown tweed suit, and hat of tho samo material; Mrs. Bernard Wood, fawn faeo cloth coat with fur collar, black crepe de chine frock, wide fawn felt hat; Mrs. Russell Graco (Wanga* nui), log-wood brown suit, felt hat to match; Mrs. 0. S. Watkins (Wellington), black fur-trimmed coat over black lnnrocain frock, with boigo vestee, blnck straw bat, trimmed with crinoline straw and satin.
