KUBELIK WITH ORCHESTRA
The big Town Hall will be the mecca of music lovers on Saturday night next, lath November, when the unusual experience will be available of hearing Jan Kubelik, the world-famous violinist, play with a local orchestra. The association of Kubelik with the Philharmonic Orchestra will be an event of some importance, for with the great man's recent sensational season in Wellington still fresh in memory it is not difficult to imagine the effect" of his playing of the Tschaikowsky Concerto with a proper orchestral accompaniment. Mr. John Bishop and his players, led by Mr. Haydock, are sensible of the' honour of the occasion, and rehearsals promise a night of delightful musicinspiration for music lovers and encouragement for those who are tiring of the lighter, type of frivolous music. The programme to be submitted by the orchestra in conjunction with Kubelik is a most ambitious one, and it is only to be supposed that those with a deep musical sense will rally to the cause of good music and throne the Town Hall as they did when Kiibelik provided his unforgettable feast a few weeks ago. The art of the famous exponent of the violin needs no elaboration here,; it has captivated with its perfection and virtuosity. His recent magnificent programmes only served to whet the appetite for more of such peerless playing. Kubelik will play a solo group as well ns the theme of the Concerto, and the orchestra will also pro--1 vide other incidental musical selections. Messrs. J. and N. Tait are taking up the cause of music in New Zealand, and the association of Kubelik with the Philhar(monic will be but the first of sucli concerts at which celebrity artists will perform. Preferential booking opens at the Bristol on Monday, and ordinary_ booking on Wednesday. .Special concessions are available for students.
