SPEEDWAY SEASON
OFFICIAL OPENING NEXT WEEK.
Arrangements have been completed for the official opening of the speedway season in Wellington to take place at the Kilbirnie Stadium next Saturday night. For the occasion there will be two Australian riders of note among the many competitors, advice having been received that H. Dnrkiu, the well-known South Australian, who has put up outstanding performances on various tracks, and B. Hamberger, a prominent New South Wales rider, will be in Wellington early next week. These two visitors will be making their first appearance in New Zealand, and they will have the benefit of a good deal of racing in Australia this season in making their debut on the excellent track at Kilbivnie. Local riders are tuning up for the official opening, and fully forty of them were engaged in preliminary contests at the Kilbirnie Stadium this afternoou. One of the features of the opening meeting will be a Big Nine Scratch Race, in which the leading local competitors will try conclusions with the Australians.
