THE ROCKET
"Oh, dear, I'm so sick of being in this place—it's so dusty and dirty," grumbled the . rocket. "Everybody stares and nobody buys. Oh!" The rocket had.a reason lor saying "Oh, for it felt itself being taken down ±rom the shelf and was actually being wraped up in crackly brown paper with dozens of wee crackers, Catherine wheel's, etc. Having recovered from, the surprise the rocket felt itself being bumped into a basket and then all was still. Soon a- hum of ea-cited voices reached the rocket's ears. After what seemed hours the crackers and other_ things were unwrapped and taken outside. "Oh, what a beauty!" said all the children in one breath as the rocket was held up. As tho proud rocket was set down it said to the others, "There, that proves I'm a beauty." "Let's send that rocket ofi iiow for Fairiel. You know .we. promised her we would." "Yes, yes!" eauic the chorus of voices. The rocket's wick was held to tho match and off it went with a bang, while the- children shouted, "Please to remember the sth of Ko•vembcr," and watched its starry flight. "SUXSET" (10). Carterton.
