Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Bledisloe loft for the South Island last evening for visits to Christchurch, Timaru, and Oamaru. Lady Bledisloe- will return to Wellington on the. 25th and tho ' GovernorGeneral on the 28th. During the absence from Wellington of Their Excellencies the visitors' book will not bo available. Mr. J. C. Riddell returned by the Niagara after a tour of Great Britain, the States, and Canada, and arrived in Wellington yesterday. The death occurred this morning of ilrs. J. fci. Keith- at her residence hi Hawker street. . The late ■ Mrs. Keith was very well,known ia the*city, and was a prominent social worker during the war years. She is survived by her husband and. a, grown-up son, Mr. Howard Keith, and daughter, Mies Claudia Keith. A Dominion-wide appeal is being made for funds to erect a memorial to Dr. Oleary, Roman Catholic Bishop" of Auckland, who was widely known. throughout New Zealand for-his works of benevolence. In issuing the appeal, Bishop Liston states that the lat« bishop's well-known love for the-or* phans and his special interest in.St. Mary's Star of the Sea Orphans'Home, Auckland, which he purchased. and built up, suggest that the most suit* able monument to his memory would b« the erection of a chapel there for us« by the children. This work has already been begun, and Bishop Liston states that he places his appeal- before. th«' late bishop's friends throughout the Dominion in confidence of a ready response.
