DAMAGES AWARDED
MOTION FOR NEW TRIAL
Ernest Drew, packer, of Wellington, was awarded £203 8s 6ct special damages and £150 general damages by the jury in the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon in respect of his claim against Godfrey Power Clapcott, insurance inspector, of Masterton, for £2774. The action was a sequel to a collision which occurred on the Porirua road, near Kaiwarra, on 24th December last between the plaintiff's • motor-cycle and the defendant's motorcar. The jury was out for nearly four hours, but finally returned a unanimous verdict, with a rider that the defendant's negligence was not criminal. Mr. E. Hardie Boys (for the plaintiff) moved for judgment, and Mr. E. Parry (for the defendant), whose application for a nonsuit at the conclusion of the plaintiff's case had been reserved, moved for a new triaK His Honour Mr. Justice Ostler deferred consideration of the three points.
