SWERVE ON TO PATH
MOTOR MISHAP MAN SERIOUSLY HURT (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, 24th October. One man was seriously injured, aud s woman and man hurt when a motor-cai crashed into a veranda post outside the shop of George Fowlds, Ltd., in Queen street, shortly after 6 o'clock to-night All were pedestrians. A small chile was thrown out of danger by hi! mother, his teddy bear falling in the path of the car. Severe injuries to the head were re ceived'by Stanley Fowler, married, agec 48, of Mount Eden. He was removee to Auckland Hospital. His conditioi is serious. „ Mrs. E. Irving, of Pousouby road, sur fered minor cuts to the head and face and a severe shaking. After receiving medical attention she was able to g< home. Her small son, aged about fiv< years, escaped unhurt. Another man was bruised on thu fore head and badly shaken. Ho was treat ed at an ambulance station. Several other pedcstriaiis on the foot path jumped out of the way. The car was driven by George Walk or. He turned out of Fort street inti Queen street. Owing to a safetyzom just above the corner room is restricted and, in swerving to avoid a pedestrian the car crashed into a post and partial ly mounted the footpath. Mrs. Irving, who was about to ste] off the pavement, picked up her chili and threw him out of danger. Nori of those injured 'had time to jum] clear and were knocked down. The post was practically severed, th bumper of the vehicle being 'wouni round it. The car, although damagee was driven away later.
