ON NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK
(By Telegraph.) (SpeciaJ'to ''The Evening Post.") NEW PLYMOUTH, 24th October. The New Plymouth track has been in splendid order during the week, and the local contingent for Waverley are in the pink'of condition. Lady Quex disappointed her owner and trainer last Saturday morning, but on Tuesday the brown mare galloped brilliantly over a half-mile, and may now be regarded as a certain starter on1 Monday. • Annoj'er worked very freely over half a mile on Saturday morning; but his owner has decided to. give him every chance to recover from his injury, and he was not accepted for at Waverley. ■. Crennatown is still doing everything right, and will strip a fit horse on Monday. He has been paid up for in two events, but will probably start in the Wilson Highweight Handicap, as lie is too big a handful for a light boy. Royal Finance was galloped over seven furlongs on Saturday morning, and did it well. She is sure to be well fancied for her W/averley engagement. Orapai went very pleasingly over four furlongs on Tuesday, but may find the opposition in the five-furlong flutter a little too seasoned. Moerangi is doing better every gallop. He went a great seven with Royal Finance on Saturday, and was only half a length behind her at the finish. It will take a good one to beat him in the Hunters' Hurdles at Cambridge. • , Owing to the indisposition of her trainer, R. Barlow, Melissa is being worked under the supervision of her owner. The Absurd mare did a very nice five furlongs on Tuesday, and with M. Pine in the saddle will carry a lot of local support in the open six. Lady Lulu continues to thrive on her work, and if anything beats Knollmere in the Maiden this filly may be the one to do it. Though not as massive as her brother, Valkon, she i? a classy-looking sort and is endowed with the family pace. To Atiawa has been working as badly i as ever, but he is very fit and may sur- j prise on Monday. He will certainly be in the picture for the greater part of the journey. C. Goulsbro' will have the mount. ■ All the two-year-olds, Easter Time (II- ] lumination— Gambolong), Gibraltar (Lack-j ham—Alvarez), Sparkling Morn (Hunting Song—Diamond Ring), and Cornerman (Nigger Minstrel—Dolitite) are doing well, though nothing serious has been asked of them of late.
