An effort will* bo"., made to au» starting discs in place of the usual flags. The discs will be similar to those used by the Harbour Board, and are so made that they can be readily seen from any angle. > The Galatea came off tho slip last week-end, and it is hoped to have her ready for sailing very shortly. Worser Bay Club. Most members of the Worser Bay Boating Club have already started th« season in earnest by overhauling their boats with an eye to speed and appearance. Ngaroma, now owned by Mr. H. Murphy, has been thoroughly overhauled. A faulty plank has been replaced, and it should riot be hard to pick her up when racing, as her brilliant red is very conspicuous. Kakariki has been .repainted green. It is hoped the colour will bring better luck than that which attended the Shamrock. Her owner, Mr. N. M'Kenzie, is at present engaged in building * boat to tho design of the Idle Along class introduced by Mr. A. '.G. Harvey. Mr. G. Cain has also had one of the same class of boat built, and in taking delivery of her last Sunday fonnd that she was excellent on every point of sail* ing, exceedingly fast, and very stiff. With such a boat an owner can loolc forward to a hard blow, knowing that , the boat will stand up to anything short of a gale. The launch Toroa has been repainted and has had a' much - more powerful engine installed. This should enable her to show a good turn of speed, and more power in the boat is certainly a "welcome addition, as she was scarcely overpowered before. A new Takapuna boat has been built by, Mr: 11. J. Fisher, and the good job he has made of her will be enhanced by; a set of Harvey aeroplane cloth sails. The club has now eight boats sailing in the races, and the increased number should provide keener racing. Quite a quota of new blood has been attracted to the club, and it is very pleasing to sec that the sport is being taken up more seriously by the general public. Opening day has been fixed for Ist November, and a dance will be held iflC. the evening. Paremata Jottings. . . . '. Last week-end saw very little aistiv* ity at Paremata, Kewpie and Miss Josephine being the only boats in tha water. These two indulged in a little friendly racing, \ Miss Josephine appearing to have a slight "edge" oa, her opponent. Both should be worth watching in a real blow when the competition is in earnest. It has beett definitely decided to open the club's season on 9th-November, when a gen-■ - eral handicap for first and second-class centreboarders will held. This race is sailed mainly as a try-out for all boats in the interests of the handicapper, who will be watching closely t»' see that no "slinters" are run. The Paremata Club has been fortunate in adding to its list of active members that popular Wellington yachtsman, Mr. P. Scott-Bamsay, owner ' of Marangi. Mr. Scott-Bamsay has presented the club with a very handsome cup, which is to be competed for annually in a special race at the Paremata Easter Eegatta. Only boats which have won tho championship of their clubs, or. which have occupied the position of runner-up, will be eligible tv start in this event, which will really be in the nature of a "Wellington pro- \ vincial championship. Outboard Motor-boat Club. The opening of the Wellington Outboard Motor-boat Club's season will be held on Labour Day, when the recently • completed shed on tho Petona waterfront will be. used for the first time. It is anticipated that between twelve and fifteen boats will be competing, among them several new craft whose performances will be watched with interest. One which is expected to make a good showing, being powered with a Lockwood Chief engine, i» owned by Mr. Wilmhurst, who was successful last season with Aloha. Mr. Woodman, who won the Canterbury, championship last Easter at ■ Akaro* with Ajax,' will also have a new boat. The programme for Labour Day is a*, follows: —11 a.m., Club Trophy, five mi!e handicap; 11.45 a.m., Banish Trophy, five mile handicap; 2 p.m., Tisdall Trophy, five mile open handicap; 2.45 p.m., Williams Trophy, one mile passenger handicap; 3.30 p.m., Jameson, Tropery, five* mile open handicap; 4.15 p.m., Woodman Trophy, one mile ope< handicap. Evans Bay Activities. Messrs. Harvey and AVeine's launch V.cka came off the slipway on Sunday, raorning and was taken out for a short ' cruise. Wairere'l. was also put into the water, and Maraugi and Baweno will be going down this week-end. Bonzo, tho new ccntreboardcr, owned by Messrs. Hollis >and Julian, will be launched this week-end, and possibly have her first sail to-morrow, conditions permitting. Preparations are well in hand for the opening day on Sth November, when Mr. A. A. Goorge, the patron, will again perform the ceremony. Poneke, named after his old Rughy; team by Mr. H. Elliot, has been receiving attention, and it is exneoted that she will be seen out ear v in November. The boat will rao. with the first-class centreboarders. ' • It is understood that a new <feature of the Evans Bay Club's programme this season will be the provision of four races for boys whose boats cannot bo rated as 'first or second-class centreboarders. This innovation should help to. maintain the interest of those juniors who have just taken on the sport. A newcomer among the Evans Bay launches will be Mr. F. M. .Tacobsen's speedboat Aorera, which will probably; be a strong contestant for championship honours. The Hei-jetannga Boating Club's *cjn son will b> opened, on 22nd November
