New Zealand and sold at such competitive prices as to seriously prejudice the'local production and sale of magazine literature; and, if" so, would the Minister make v statement as to the attitude of■ the Government towards placing a dumping duty on the offending back-date magazines referred to.- ... ■■■.■' "The question', as to the importation of batk-datp magazines has been investigated,", said the. Minister (the Hon. J.G. Cobbe).' ''Such magazines of British and foreign origin are, I am advised, not secoifd-haud publications, but are new books of earlier issues printed in excess of the demand at publishing date. They arc imported into Isew Zealand under ordinary regular trade conditions operating throughout the world, and in those circumstances there is no legal authority for the imposition of dumping duty. It is not considered to be in the public interest to restrict the dissemination of knowledge. There is, of course, ample provision in the existing law to deal with undesirable literature." Voices?
