ATHLETIC TOURS
ALLOCATION OF COST
INVITATION TO AMERICAN
Though the 'Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre would like to see a field events man included in the team of American athletes to visit New Zealand in the coining season, it feels it cannot agree to the proposition until some more equitable arrangement than exists at present is made regarding the proportion of the cost of the tour to be borne by the centre; That was the text of a resolution passed at last evening's meeting of the cejrtrc, after a communication had been received from the Council of the N.Z.A.A.A., asking that consideration should be given to the question of inviting Harlow Rothert (Stanford University) to accompany George Simpson and Kufus Kiser. ; Mr. A. C. Kitto said that probably more would be learnt from a field events men than a sprinter or distance runner, but under the present system of allocating expenses, of overseas tours he did not think it was fair to ask the centre to support Eothcrt's inclusion. It appeared to him that the centre was paying for the tour and would not benefit financially at all. That had been the experience in. the past, and the position would be more so if Kothert were invited. If the council asked the other centres to contribute a fair proportion of the extra man's expenses, then he would say that the centre should agree to his inclusion in the team. The centre, however, had been unable/to get the council to look at the position in that light. At the present time the other centres were on rather a good wicket.
