Describing " Capival Week as a "miserable gambling . business," the Mayor (the Key. J. K. Archer) opposed a suggestion made at a meeting of the City Council that the council should adjourn for two periods of three weeks in order to avoid meeting on Labour Day and during Carnival Week.
"I don't see why we should worry about Carnival Week," said the Mayor. "If any of the' councillors must ' carnivalise'
' Councilor E. H. Andrews:''/Is that in'the dictionary?" ' The Mayor: "I don't know if it is, but it is quite a good word anyhow. If any councillor wishes to go to the carnival then he -can, and-conic hero at night. Why oil earth we as councillors should recognise this miserable gambling business I don't see. I think we should go on with the council meeting.'J ■ ' It was agreed to leave the matter over for a. fortnight. , '
