COLD AND SQUALLY
UNSEASONABLE WEATHER
Although locally weather conditions, with tho exception of heavy .rain yesterday morning and again last night, wore not so bad, the groater part of tho Dominion during tho last 24 hours has experienced decidedly squally and unsettled weather. Strong westerly winds have given place to south-westerlies, and this morning tho latter were general, with gales in exposed places; Bain has been general and heavy at times, especially in western districts, and some' places have had hail. Tho intense depression responsible for the bad weather, however, is now moving gradually eastward. Auckland's weather yesterday was unsettled and boisterous. A strong westerly wind prevailed and there wore heavy showers of rain and hail. After rain yesterday morning, the weather in Wellington cleared and the sun shone in tho afternoon. There was very heavy rain again early this morning. Dull weather prevailed in Christchureh yesterday. With a change in the wind to the soutli-wost, showers fell. Cloudy and somewhat unsettled weather was Dunedin's experience yesterday and showers fell at times.
Tho forecast issued at noon to-day indicates that the unsettled weather is not quite finished with yet. South-west-erly to southerly winds are likely to be strong and to reach gale force at times. Cold, squally, and showevy'weather may be expocted.. Hail on parts oil the coast and snow on the ranges arc also forecasted, , ■
