CLASSIC PAYMENTS
SUGGESTION TO WELLINGTON
KACING CLUB
,G?hat in Kew. Zealand, there-Svas too long an interval •between tile payment of forfeit for classic races', and the day of therace was" the opinion expressed by Mri I-L- P., F.'^lundelli' in\ speaking to the adoptidn.^of the report^and..'balance-bheet at the annual ineoting'ol members oL the Wellington^ Eacirig-.Club. In Australia, Mr.-Blundull baid, tlieio wero two payments, uhuica.s in the Dominion, with one or two exceptions', owneis became liable for tho fulf btibscription if they left horses in a race after the forfeit date. Early in the season it was not always possible to know whether a hoi so was good eiiqugh for classic races, but in order to avoid being left owners had to make themselves 'liable for the full subscription. He considered that two payments, one of £1 on general entry day and another for the balance of the subscription a few days prior to the race, would meet with1 general approval. Ho instanced the classics at the Cantorbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan (November) Meeting. Forfeit was due on general entry day^ for the Spring .(Grand National) Meeting, and the full subscription, had to be paid for hoi.ses left in after that date. It was his view that payment should not be required till after the Wellington Meeting, and ho suggested that consideration bo given to the opinion he had expressed and that the Canterbury Jockey Club be approached in the matter.
