MANAWHENUA BEATEN

A RAGGED DEFENCE

GOOD WELLINGTON PACK

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

PALMERSTON N., This Day

With their forwards playing well, and the Manawhenua defence showing weakness, the Wellington team had no difficulty in beating Manawhenua by 19 points to G. The weather was not favourable to a good display of football. The teams were: —■. ' :

Wellington: Clarke, '.7ylie, M'Donald, Neale, Robins, Killeen, Coman, Hill (captain), Ottaway, Mollier, Blacker, Skilton, Ward, Roberts, Wood.

Manawhenua: S. Bramwell, Page, Griffin, Fletcher (captain), Robb, Mitchell, Fuller, Roddick, Fitzgerald, Henry, Miles, K. Fitzgerald, C. Hight, Satherley, Williams.

Manawhenua had the wind against them in the first spell, but their play in this earlier part of the game was better than in the second spell. The score at halftime was 9 points to 3 against them. The opening score was a try by Ward under the posts, following a good movement headed by the same player. Coninu missed with the kick. Later M'Donald intercepted a pass in the Manawlieniia rear division, and raced away with Wylie in attendance. Wylie scored well out, and Neale failed to convert. From the kiclc-out Robins caught the defence napping, and got over in the corner. Coman made an attempt to convert. From a lineout K. Fitzgerald forced his way over Wellington's line in the corner. Fletcher took the kick, but was unsuccessful.

Manawhenua were the first to score after the change-over, Fletcher securing possession to fall across the line. Roddick's kick failed. The Wellington forwards then took charge and two tries resulted, Coman converting one, and Neale the other. The scorers were Ward and Coraan, the latter catching the defence asleep and running round a set scrum to cross easily. •
