PRICE OF PETROL

INCREASE ANTICIPATED

, (By Telegraph.) (Special to ."The Evening Post.")

CIIRISTCHUBCH, This Day.

An increase of a penny a gallon o» the retail price of petrol 13 forecasted by the "Chi'istchurch Times." In an editorial article the paper rofers • to efforts being made in America to hold the output below the demand, and says:' "The price outlook for nsers of petrol in New Zealand is therefore not promising. If the cost to the consumers here is nearly six times what it is on, the Pacific Coast when the output.is largely in excess of current demands, it would appear that the retail piico in the Dominion is likely to be in* creased when the, production in the United States is to be hold below the demand. There is certainly room for investigation, and if the rumoured advance in price of petrol proves to bo correct, the whole question should be the subject of close inquiry by the Government." (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day: An increase in the retail' price of petrol, making first-grade 2s a gallon, is expected in Christchureh on Ist October.

Inquiries made in Wellington fail _to substantiate that any rise.■'in/the;price of petrol is contemplated. ■..-.■•. : ;
