A SIGN OF THE TIMES
(By Telegraph.—r.e»i A«oei»tion.)
iROTOBUA, 19th September.
A conference of "White Star motor service officials, held at Wairakei, terminated to-day. Thirty motor companies throughout both islands were represented. •:
At a banquet the.speakers strongly stressed the noed of motor services coordinating and co-operating with the Railway Department^ with a view to mutual advantage by eliminating overlapping and saving unnecessary train and motor mileage. t
Opinions were expressed that the time was ripe for both rail and road transporters to unite to avoid . useless uneconomic competition. The new spirit shown in the railway management was eulogised, and an optimistic view was taken of the future of the combined policy.
Mr. Jack Newman, flying in his own machine from Wellington to attend the conference, covered the distance in just two hours, leaving Wellington at 3 p.m. and landing at Tauhara at 5 p.m.
