EAST COAST RAILWAY
GISBORNE SOMEWHAT ANXIOUS
(By Telegraph.—Presi Association.)
GISBOENE, 17th September.
The Gisborne Chamber of Commorce discussed to-day tho proposed Parliamentary Committee set up to investigate the position of railways under construction, and reference was made to the fact that the East Coast was not represented on the personnel of the Committee.
It was considered impossible by one speaker that after all the promises made that the railway to Gisborne would bo stopped. It was resolved that if the Committee decided to investigate the East Coast line a deputation would proceed to Wellington with all available evidence.
On the other hand, tho chamber passed a resolution congratulating the Government on the expeditious work on the Napier-Wairoa section of the line, and asking that tho work on the Gisborno end be pushed on expeditiously, so as to synchronise with the completion of the Napier-Wairoa section.
