SHAMROCK CANNOT WIN

(Received 18th September, noon.) NEWPORT, 17th September.' Sir Thomas Lipton gave up hope o£ victory to-day as he jvitnessed the accident to the Shamrock, at the same time reiterating that this was his last attempt. "It seems," he said, "that the Shamrock cannot win. No single man in.' England can build a million-dollar yacht alone, and without that none can. hope to lift the Cup. After this it vrill have to be syndicate against syndicate." __,
