TOO MANY HOLIDAYS
AUSTRALIA'S POSITION
Discussing a suggestion that tho number of public holidays should be restricted, Mr. E. Lee Noil, managing director of Myer Emporium, Ltd., said it was time that Australia reviewed tho whole question of public holidays.
'' Every week in which there is a public holiday," he added, "our businoss is run at a definite loss. All capital and overhead charges go in spito of holidays. Australia cannot compete with the rest of tho world if she is going to continue this indulgence."
Mr. C. H. A. Eager, barrister and M.L.C., said that if a few of tho public holidays were eliminated, some of the burdensome and wasteful interruptions of industry would be obviated, resulting in greater production.
Mr. Alfred Barrow, managing director of Austral Grain and Ambler Pty., Ltd., stated that business was capsized and staffs unsettled by public holidays. Several days passed before the normal flow of trade was resumed.
