BOYS ENTERTAINED
Members of the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade teams of the Wellington Football Club spent an onjoyable evening at the Taia Hall, Kilbirnie, last week the occasion being the annual'social for these teams. There was a largo attendance of members of these teams, and also, present, to help rrith the function, were players of tho higher grades, members of tho Management Committee, and other officials and supporters of the ■ club,, among whom were Messrs. J. Murray (president), A. D. Bayfiold, J. G. Roche, G. F. W. Jackson, J. H. Fowler, J. Thompson, F. Bond, and G. H. Weir.
The boys were first treated to a dinner, which was much enjoyed, and the proceedings then took tho form of a concert, with occasional speeches..
The toast of "The Teams" was proposed by Mr. A. D. Bayfield, supported by Mr. 6. I?. W. Jackson, the replies on behalf of• tho various teams being mads by Horrax (fourth A), Cutts (fourth B), Lang (fifth), Clarke (sixth), Grounsell (seventh), and Compton' (eighth). The sixth, team was complimented upon its excellent performance in winning the championship of that grade, having gone through the season without having its .line being, crossed. Mr. j. Murray, in an. address, made special reference to tho diamond jubilee of tho club, exhorting the boys,, as the future seniors, to maintain the excellent traditions of the club, Mr. G. H. AVeir congratulated the teams on the part which they had played in the club's success in tho elirc championship of the Wellington Union, and made reference to the splendid work of the coaches—Messrs. W. R. Whyborn (fourth A), Iv. E. Arres (fourth B), F. Bond (fifth), W. E. Clarke (sixth), A. D. Rowsc (seventh), and W. J. Compton (eighth). Mr. Weir mentioned that tho club's Levin Shield competition would fake place on tho 4th October, and urged tho young players to take part. The Fowler Cup for .the most improved team in the club and the Age-limit Cup for the club's best .team in the age grades were presented by Mr. J. H. l-'owfer to. tho captains of tho fifth and sixth teams respectively. Mr. J. G. Roache handed to 11. Compton a medal which had been donated by Miss P. Barford. for the best player in the eighth team, and to K. C. Cragg, a modal which Mr. Compton had donated for the most improved player in the same team.
Mr. Comptou was the recipient of a gift froiruniembors of his team (the eighth) in appreciation of his efforts on their b&half, tho presentation being made by Master A. Thompson.
Items by Messrs. J. D. Hislop, JR. Still, V. L. Chatwin, 0. H. Chatwin, and Master Cliff Myers added 'greatly to the enjoyment of a most successful function.
