THRIFT AND PENSIONS
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—l would like to endorse the sound views expressed- in your sub-leader of the 11th September headed "In the Right Way." It seems to me that certain politicians are ever ready to advocate costly "something for nothing" schemes at the expense of the taxpayers, but omit to suggest that people should make some effort to provide for the future of themselves and dependants by availing themselves of the various schemes of insurance (life, endowment, . accident, and sickness, etc.) and other plans for the promotion of thrift and lessening of financial .losa through death or incapacity. Sir James Allen is the only legislator that I have ever heard express this view.. Experience shows that when such provision has not been made'it is more often through neglect rather than inability to do so.—l am, etc.,. : • , '
