A LARGE ATTENDANCE. Maws. .Levin and Co., Ltd., have reteeivad the .following cablegram from their Ldndon agents:—"The auctions opened liere to-day with a large attendance of Home and- Continental buyers. Good general competition. As compared with the closing rates of last sale, we quote: Greasy merino, best,.no change; greasy merino, average, %d per lb lower; fine halfbreds, 50/56'b, %d to Id per lb lower; halfbreds, 48/SO's, %d per lb lower; fine crossbreds, ■K/&8, %d, medium crossbred, 44/46's, ,%y, coarse crossbreds, 40/44's, .%d, low crossbreds. 30/40's, %d—all lower; scoured merinos, 5 p.e. lower; scoured crossbreds are selling badly at 10 p.c. to 15 p.c. lower; sltpe wools are 10 p.c. lower." REPRESENTATIVE OFFERINGS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency "Company, Limited, is informed by >its :London house: "Wool sales—There •was a. full attendance at the opening of the - sales- to-day, competition, by Home and Continental buyers being fairly active and prices as compared with the close of preceding series ruled about the same for nierino superfine, 5 per cent, lower for oilier merino, 5 per cent, to 7% per cent, lower, for crossbred' greasy, and 7% per cent, to 10 per cent, lower i'or slipe crossbred and crossbred scoured. The opening catalogues were fairly representative." YORKSHIRE AND GERMANY. Messrs. Murray, Roberts, and Co.. Ltd./ have received the following wool cablegram from then- London agents:— ''Sales have opened; large attendance of buyers; competition good and geneva!; Yorkshire and German buyers principal operators. Compared with last London sale's closing rates: Merino, good to extra good,, market shows a hardening tendency; merino, medium to good, declined 5 per cent.; merino,- inferior, declined 7% per cent; scoured merino, declined 5 to Vh per cent.; crossbred greasy comeback and crossbred greasy halfbred, none offering; crossbred greasy medium, declined 10 per tent.; , crossbred, greasy coarse, declined s;per cent.; crossbred .lambs, declined VA per. cent.; crossbred scoured, best descriptions, declined 5 per cent.; other descriptions declined 10 per cent.; slipe halfbred lambs, declined Vk per cent.; other descriptions declined 10 per cent. A GOOD SELECTION. Messrs. Wright,. Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have received'cabled advice from their London house; as follows:—"Wool sales opened. Larger attendance of buyers than asual. Continental and Bradford buyers chief operators..Selection good. Small proportion New Zealand wool included. Greasy halfbred, 50/56's, lQ%d; greasy fine crossbred, 46/48's, 9*/ id; greasy medium crossbred, 44/46's, 9d. Australian merinos prices par to 5 per cent, lower. Slipcd prices 10 per cent; lower to 12% per cent." FRENCH BUYERS QUIET. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., London, advise:—"Wool sale? opened. Large attendance; good selection; competition hesitating. France and Home trade buyers quiet; Germany active demand. As compared with closing rates of last series:— Best scoured merino, 5 per cent, to 7% per cent lower; merino, other descriptions, / h per cent, to 10 per cent.; finest merino "reasy, unchanged; merino, other descriptions, 5 per cent.; fine greasy crossbred, 7% per cent.; coarse greasy crossbred, par to 5 per cent.; crossbred medium, 5 per cent "to 7% per cent.; scoured crossbred, 7% per cent, to 10 per cent.; slipe crossbred, 10 per cent, to 15 pev cent.; ail lower." • L . ■ '
