DESERTED HIS SHIP
PEOHIBITED IMMIGRANT
Deserting the vessel Balaklava at Lyttelton, Wilhelm Arneson, seaman, aged 31, was arrested and sent to Wellington- by the Maori to catch another boat, but he eluded those who were waiting on the wharf for him. and missed that boat also.
This morning Arneson, appeared in the Magistrate's Court before Mr. E. Page, S.M., charged with deserting his ship, and being a prohibited immigrant. Sub-Inspector Lopdell conducted the «ase for the police. The Collector of Customs said that the accused had no permit to land in Ken- Zealand, and as soon as the vessel left h<* became a prohibited imrnisrant. It was stated that there was a possibility of his gutting a berth on the whaler Kosmos, which loaves Wellington on Friday.
