PORK AND BACON

EXCELLENT NAME AT HOME

The pork and bacon exports last year were less than usual, remarked Mr. D. Jones, M.P., chairman, at th'o annual meeting of the Meat Producers' Board to-day. That was rather regrettable, because the product was getting an excellent name on the English market, and the board had been doing all it could to popularise it. He believed that there was a great opening for the Dominion's pork and bacon in Great Britain if the dairy farmers would address themselves to the task of providing the article that was required. A great deal of discussion had arisen throughout the country regarding the importation of foodstuffs from outside for the upkeep of the pork industry. His opinion was that the farmer would be well advised to follow the . example of his Danish competitor and grow a greater proportion of grain for his pigs on his own farm. It would mot take a great deal of room to do that in New Zealand.
