BURGLARY IN CITY
HARDWARE SHOP ENTERED
£35 STOLEN
A daring burglary took place in the heart of the city last night or early this morning, when the premises of M'Lean and Archibald, ironmongers, in Manners street, were broken, into and £35 was stolen. It is, thought'that the intruders got in through a back window.
The money was part of tho day's takings, and had been left in a drawer, tho rest of the takings being locked in tho safe. The drawer was locked, but the burglar apparently h"ad no difficulty in forcing it and extracting the money. Tho safe had not been touched. Tt is not known whether anything else was stolen, as to ascertain this would be difficult on account of the large quantity of stock. Speaking to a "Post" representative this morning, Mr. Archibald said he had no idea how the place was entered; ■'■ From outward appearances there was nothing to arouse suspicion. All the doors were exactly as they had been left last evening, securely locked. "It looks like a very clever burglary," said Mr. Archibald.
