GRAND TOTALS EQUAL.

AUSTRALIA'S CLOSE CALL

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Deceived 27th August, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 26th August. The Gloucester match finished sensa-

tionally in a tio.

When the game was resumed in the presence of eight thousand spectators, the county, was 62 ahead-with seven wickets in hand. The side then collapsed and were all out before lunch for a total of 202, leaving the Australians 118 to got to win. Hornibrook was again the most successful bowler, and his figures for the match were nine for 69.

The Australians commenced their second innings well, M'Cabe and Jackson carrying the total to 59, before the former was bowled. Pour wickets then fell with the addition of 14 runs. Ponsford and Kippax made their first ducks of the tour.

The crowd roared with excitement when Parker scattered Bradman's stumps. Thirty-seven runs were now needed with four wickets intact. Australia seemed certain to lose when a'Beclcett was caught in the slips. The score was now 86 for seven. Hurwood survived two appeals for leg-before, and with the total at 96 Lyon dropped Griinmett. Hurwood was again given not out to further leg-before appeals. The pair added » valuable 20, and then Hurwood was out leg-before. Eight wickets were now down for 108, but three runs were still wanted when Grimniett was caught after a plucky stay of an hour. Hornibrook survived a stumping appeal and brought the sides level amidst tremondous excitement. Goddard appealed for leg-before against the same batsman, and Hornibrook was given out. Thus ended the most dramatic match of the tour. It was a pitiful display on tho Australians' part, and a further demonstration of the foolishness of changing the batting order.
