DEFEAT AUCKLAND SIDE

AUCKLAND, 23rd August. The Xew Zealand Rugby League touring team, which arrived from Australia^ on Tuesday, defeated the* Auckland representatives to-day by 34 points to 27. The weather was fine, and 7000 people witnessed the game at Carlaw Park. The tourists played splendid football throughout, and the backs excelled in clever passing. Auckland's best backs, Riley and Brady, retired with injuries, and under, the i circumstances the home team did well. • New Zealand's forwards showed improved form in controlling the ball in the scrums. Abbott, thevhalf-back, played a brilliant game, and scored four tries. Amos was easily the better of the fiveeighths, and Seagar also played well. Barchard, Clarke, and Calder stood out prominently among the forwards. Play was fast and open, and delighted the spectators.
