NEW GAMING BILL.

EVERY POST OITICE A TOTALISATOR BRANCH.

It sounds innocent enough as explained iv the Bill —"allowing totalisator investments to be telegraphed to scoretry of racing club." In effect, this would make every Post Office a branch of the totalisator. Moreover, any minor would be able to telegraph money to racecourses. It would also be necessary to teep the Post Offices open all tiny on statutory holidays. As each Post Office would become the rendezvous of tipsters and "guessers," a possible outcome would be that each office would come under the care of the racecourse detectives. It is not difficult to visualise-a new type of official whose occupation would be explained as, say, "Post Office Totalisator Detective!"

The new Parliamentary demand for increased betting facilities is the best possible argument for the licensing of bookmakers. The Gaming Bill is out to widen the grip of the racing clubs and the totalisator 3 but its effects would be deleterious to tho public interest. Racing is cleaner and sportsmen are better served where the bookmaker operates, as well as the totalisator.— (Published by arrangement.)

"The Winds of Chance" flow to and fro, And waft new-hopes wher'er they blow. "The Winds of Chance" for you may be The bearers of prosperity.

'"The Winds of Chance" infection fling, In septic germs which ailments bring— For coughs and colds prompt ease assure. With Woods' Great Peppermint Cure.— Advt.
