LATEST RESULTS

The second day of the Wellington Competitions Society's sessions gave farther promise of an outstanding success for this year's festival. Events were heard in the Town Hall, Concert Chamber, and Nimmo's Hall, the stage [managers being Messrs. Evans, Huggins, and Baker. A further fine programme will be presented this evening in the Town Hall, when a number of finals will bo decided and announced with the judges' comments at the end of the evening. Competitors are reminded that this year tho prizes are being paid the day aflcr they are won, and may be obtainefl. from, the secretary from ten o'cWek in the, morning onwards. The wet weather did not greatly affect tho attendances at 'to-day's events, and another full house is expected to-night. Following are the results of events up to the time "The Post" went to press to-day:— Mezzo-soprano Solo, "The Lass with a Delicate Air." Recalls: Miss Ailsa P. Dillon (Hataitai), Miss Myrtle Jacobsen (Berhampore). Highly commended: Mrs. Winifred Murie (Worser Bay), Miss Gladys Webb (Wellington). Mr. Ernest Jenner, commenting on the reading at sight classes, mentioned tho need for eye training to see the beat positions in the copy. The meaning of music depended more on the time pattern than on the notCB with which the time pattern was clothed. Key also was a weakness in both classes. The following" also competed: Mrs. Mark Tonks (Wellington), Misses Kathleen Blanchette (Wanganui), Betty Hilliard (Christchurch), Kathleen Baskctte (Lower Hutt). Sections of the piano solo (15 and under 18), for the Bristol Piano Company's Scholarship, and of the ladies' New Zealand test recital ("Paul Reveres Ride") were also heard this morning. The following results were decided on Saturday night, and are in addition to those published elsewhere in to-night's issue:— Eecitation (girls 14 and under 16), "Christmas Bells." Miss Joyce Dinnison (Brooklyn), 86 points 1 Miss Grace Nixon (Christchurch), S3 points 2 Tho judge said the winner had given anintoresting interpretation, while Miss Nixon's rendering was also very creditable, but had not quite enough light and shade. Recital, with musical accompaniment (lady or gentleman), 16 and under 21, pathetic or dramatic. Own selection. — Recalls: Miss Joan Maunder (Wellington), Mr. Ccdric A. Muir (Stokes Valley) Miss Nancy Abernethy. Highly commended: Misses Queenie HallM'Lean (Wellington), Kathleen Bartosh (Lower Hutt), Mavis I. Windsor (Wellington), Gracio Kerr (Island Bay). Also competed: Misses Kathleen Campbell (Island Bay), Joyce Barker (Hataitai), Z. R. Zenderson (Khandallah), Margaret Seeyle' (Dunedin), Mr. John Storr (Wellington), Mr. A. Pcderson (Ohakoa), Misses Jean Sutherland (Karori), Janet B. Miller (Brooklyn).

Mr. Muir had a good voice., well modulated, said the judge, and had received good support from his accompanist. Miss Maunder had also given an interesting and pleasing interpretation, and Miss Abernethy had shown a good sense of rhythm. As judge, ho had enjoyed all tlirco items.

She had given a very pleasing study, and brought out the humour of the piece very well indeed.
