DOMINION CONTESTS R. A. ROSE COMPETING In various parts of the Dominion this year- sign's have not been wanting of increased popularity of the harrier sport, and, not only that, splendid enthusiasm lias been shown, and in many of the races, the standard of performance has been particularly good. The provincial championships have now been held and next Saturday the big contests of the season, the New Zealand cross country championships (for individual and team honours) are down for decision, and these are to be held over the 10.000 metres course a' Lower Hutt, one of the finest in the country. Competitors will st~rt and finish on the Hutt Park Racecourse, and the course will be covered twice. The teams for the championships have been selected and the names of the competitors appear in the supplement pages of this issue. Prominent among the runners will be R. A. Rose (Wanganui-Tara-naki), New Zealand's great distance runner, P. 11. Francis, a former English champion with a high reputation, and A. L. Stevenß (Wellington), who has registered fine performances this season, and capped all by a splendid win in the Wellington provincial A grade championship last Saturday. Although Rose has held the Australasian cross-country championship title and has been most successful on the track, he has not been a winner of New Zealand cross-country honours. Rose will be competing as an individual next week, and, as he is reported to be in form, his appearance along with other good performers should make the contests most interesting. J, W. Savidan (Auckland),, who has won the New Zealand championship three years in succession, will be a notable absentee. He is in Canada with the New Zealand Empire Games team. Wellington holds the teams'' championship. This year the province will be represented by the following team:—A. L. Stevens (Scottish), P. H. Francis, A. Barclay (Brooklyn). C. M'Carthy (Hutt Valley), L. Watson (Wellington), L. Sinclair (Scottish); Emergencies: 3. Shephard (Wellington), and F. B. Silver (Scottish). PREVIOUS WINNERS.
