THE TAHITI WRECK
(To the Editor.) Sir,— May I not take'the liberty of deploring the publicity given to the letter of "0.C.H." in your issue of 21st August? Captain Meyer, of the Ventura, performed at least a praiseworthy and humane action, and displayed an equally commendable modesty in his official reports. Such laudatory references as did appear came almost entirely from Press sources. I agree that the little Penybryn is deserving of unstinted praise for the gallant part she played. Her contribution might very well have been stressed more fully in Press reports. But surely it was possible to draw attention to that fact without indulging in unpleasant references to the' oountry of which Captain Meyer happens to be a national. I know that you do not hold yourself responsible for the opinions expressed by your correspondents. Nevertheless, along with other admirers of the spirit of fair play and the canons of good taste, I confess to a certain surprise that you should have thought it necessary or seemly to give a letter of this sort the maximum of publicity.—l am, etc., BERNARD GOTLIEB. 22nd August. [As* an expression of opinion the letter written over the norn de plume "0.C.H." was, in our opinion, quite admissible. It was one of several similar communications received by "The Post."—Ed.]1
