MARSDEN DANCE
IN NEW ASSEMBLY HALL
A most enjoyable dance was held last night in the new Assembly Hall at Marsden School, the- object being to raise funds for the purchase of a stage curtain., The entrance hall and corridors had been carpeted for the occasion, and the large entrance to the ball-room eonvertcd into a lounge. There were a very largo crowd of dancers, and a room was set aside upstairs for bridge. Tho gallery overlooking the hall was well filled with onlookers. Mr. Burnett (president)' and Mrs. Burnett received, the guests, Mrs. Burnett wearing a blank frock. During tho evening a step-dancing chorus of nine girls, who contributed such a successful exposition of modern team-dancing at the Plunket Ball, gave another much-appreciated dance, which was received with great applause, making a very pleasant item in the evening's entertainment. Mr. T. B. M' Gregor, who presented this item, and Mis 3 Betty Graham, of the Phyllis Bates School of Dancing, also gave a demonstration of the latest ball-room dances. The ballet was danced by the Misses. Dinah Sloman,. Lulu Morice, Penelope Blundell, Betty Graham, Margaret Malfroy, Meg. Knyvett, Sheila Macßryde, Betty Jervis, and Mrs. Gibson Stott. The committee members present were Mrs. Flanagan (who wore blue net over taffeta), Mrs. Graham Robertson (red chenille georgette), Mrs. Evans (black georgette), Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Neavo (deep red lace), Mrs. Mawsou, Mrs. Green (black), Mrs. Briggs, Mrs. Nelson, Mi^s. Sloman (wine coloured lace), and Miss D. Hadfield (pale blue taffeta). Others present were Mrs. Dutton, Miss Mayhew (wearing black lace), Mesdamea J. G. Coates (primrose georgette), Doctor (gold tissue), Grimmond (black satin), La Trobo (beige lacc) f T. Bhind (black lace), W. M. Paterson (orange chiffon velvet), Alister Young (red lace), C. C. Miles (olive -green lace), Stedman (gold lace), Hunt (black lace), V. A delicious home-made supper was provided by the ladies of tho committee, and the music was supplied by Mr. Basil Bird's Embassy Band. ,
