MIRAMAR HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

+ The annual meeting of the Miramar Horticultural Society was held on Tuesday last, Mr. E. O. Thornton being in the chair. The report stated that three shows were hied during the course of the year, viz., summer, midsummer, and autumn. Owing, however, to the inclemency o£ the weather and other local functions being held on the same days, the midsummer and autumn shows did not turn out as successful as ' was anticipated. However, the standard of blooms and produce exj hibited was again of a very high order. !An additional spring bulb show was held on 20th September last amongst members only. It was not decided until very late in the year to hold the cottage garden competition, and owing to the very dry weather experienced, and so few entries received it was thought advisable to call it off. It is hoped that record entries will be received for next year's competition, entries for which close on Saturday, 22nd November, 1930. Two shows only will be held this season, 2nd December and 21st April. Officers were elected as follows:—Chairman, Mr. E. O. Thornton; hon. treasurer, Mr. H. Willard; hon. auditor, Mr. R. J. Weir; hon. secretary. Mr. E. W. Millar; assistant secretary, Mr. E. Taylor: joint show secretaries, Mr. T. Condliffe and Mr. D. M'Girr; delegates to Wellington Central Horticultural Society, Mr. H. Jones and Mr. R. W. Millar.
