NOTES FROM DUNEDIN
The Otago Boxing Association lias staged five professional contests this year and several amateur tournaments, but since Sarron and Snack met in such a -wretched contest in June things have been very quiet, and enthusiasts are now awaiting the announcement of another contest, telegraphs "The Post s special correspondent in Dunedm. The secretary (Mr. Harry Divers) states that tlie demands of many boxers have become such that it is almost impossible to hope for a satisfactory return without imposing such charges as wouW deter many of the public from attending. Still the opinion is held here that there would t>e no fears if the association -took advantage of Johnny Leckie s business visit to Dunedin next month to match him in a contest, especially as young Llew Edwards, the Victorian featherweight, is now prepared to come across. Edwards has not figured much in Australian ring news of late, but might be a good opponent for Leekie. Ike Kutner has also advised the Otago Association that ho can secure an option on the services of Jack Haines, the Australian middleweight champion, who is prepared to come to Dunedin for two contests for £175 each contest and transportation expenses both ways, expenses being rather high. It is stated that a northern boxing association has also been seeking the services of Haines. Hector Leckie, New Zealand lightweight champion, outpointed Lou Bloom last week, and his trainer, Archie Leckie, states that there is a prospect of his being matched a third time with Tommy Donovan, at Blenheim, Donovan having twico beaten Leckie. Hector will not come into the ring under the lightweight limit, as he weakened himself on previous occasions he met Donovan by making weight.
