TOO STORMY FOR FERRY TRIP

♦ A reply to criticism of the failure of tho 6.10 p.m. boat to do the WellingtouEastbourue trip one night recently was made by the Mayor of Eastbourne (Mr. H. M. Jones) at the Borough Council meeting on Thursday. The night in question, said Mr. Jones, was so stormy that no shipping left Wellington. When the master o£ the Cobar reached Eastbourne at about 6 p.m. he thought it unsafe to bring her back to the city, and telephoned the Town Clerk to that effect. Had it been known sooner that the boat could not make the trip there would have been buses to take the passengers, but as it happened they, were brought over by the quickest way —on the 7.30 bus.
