BOXING CONTROL

THE ANNUAL MEETING

LIMITATION OP PURSES

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

PALMERSTON N., This Day.

Tho annual meeting of tho New Zealand Boxing Association was presided over by Mr. Earle E. Wimsett. The annual report stated that the standard of professional boxing had been higher than usual, due mainly to the importation by the major associations of highclass boxers from overseas.

Eeplying to a question the secretary stated that the Hawkes Bay Association had been fined £5 for a breach of the rules relating to purses in connection with the Bloom-Morgan fight. Beference was made to the fact that the verdict of the Appeal Committee regarding Eeg. Trowern's' appeal against disqualification for six months appeared in the Auckland Press before it had been conveyed to the association, and it was decided to draw the attention of the Appeal Committee to the rule that it shall not communicate directly with any person or body other than the council.

The question of percentage purses for professional contests was discussed at length, the following remit being moved on behalf of Otago:—"ln lieu of the stated purse-, the words 75 per cent, of net profits, or such other percentage as the association in general meeting may agree upon, be substituted." Delegates pointed out that a purse of £300 was now allowed . associations putting on tho best contests. If a percentage system were adopted there would be no hope of the smaller associations putting on a big fight until after the cities had had the services of the best boxers. The remit was lost by 15 votes to 4.

Mr. Talbot (Wellington) moved that the following addition be made to the rule: "It shall be a breach of this rule to make a professional payment by way of training expenses, which, in effect, amounts to paying a bigger purse than is provided in the rule." . The resolution was carried by a large majority. . The following officers were elected: President, Mr. H. W. Johnston (Ashburton); vice-presidents, Messrs. . 8. Gleninning (Napier), Earle/ B. Wimsett (Palmerston North); members' council, Dr. P. I\ M'Evedy, Messrs. D. E. Hoggard, J. H. Simpson, E. Blundell, E. A. Dawson, H. H. Sterling, and Colonel R. Beere, all of Wellington; appeal committee, Messrs. Sanders, Meredith, M'Kenzie (Auckland). - The next championships are to be held at Ashburton.
