TRIBUTES FROM OVERSEAS

In the absence of the chairman, Mr. S. S. Dean, Mr.'A. C. Kitto presided at last night's meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union. There were also present Messrs. H. S. Leith, J. G. Roache, H. H. Sterling, T. Fletcher, E. M'Kenzie, and E. Wylie.

Congratulations on the result of the third Test match were received from the Victorian Kugby Union and on winning the Test rubber from the New South AVales Rugby Union.

From Mr. C. J. Wray, representative of the New Zealand Rugby Union at Home, the following cable was received:—"At conclusion of this memorable tour I tender heartiest congratulations to British team and my own mother uuiou, trusting that 1 lasting friendships made on and oil' the | field will strengthen bonds between us. so that we may always greet olie another as brothers in the good old game, and so do honour to the memory of clear old Rowland Hill, whose greatest aim in life was to bring Rugby footballers into one family throughout the world." The 'Waikato Rugby Union forwarded £000 as part of the-New Zealand Union's share of the gate receipts in the match against the British team. It was stated that the estimated attendance was 12,000, and that the total "gate" was probably over £1500.

A request was received from the Nelson Union that the suggested Maori v. Pakeha match should be played at Nelson. The application was held over, to be considered later.

A request from the Canterbury Kugby Union for permission to play a match against the South Island Maoris on 13th September, the Maoris to be guaranteed their expenses up to £100, was referred to Messrs. A. C. Kitto and T. Fletcher to confer with the Maori Advisory Board and with power to act.
