AN UNSATISFACTORY STORY
Charged with unlawfully converting to his own use a motor-car valued at £120, Robert Edward Cobb, described as a grocer, aged 27, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court to-day. "I think," said Mr. E. Page, S.M., after hearing evidence, "it is clear that I shall have to convict this man. He is found driving a car which was wrongfully taken from the owner, and he explained to the constable that it was his car and that he used it in connection with his business, while he addressed one of his two companions as Jack. He says now that he was asked by his companion to drive the car, as the third man was too. drunk to: do so. I am not satisfied with the explanation." In- fining the accused. £20, in default; three months' imprisonment, the Magistrate said that Cobb had been previously convicted of a similar offence about eight months ago, and on the night in question he had taken some liquor, and his companions were drunk.
